OCT is computerized imaging using laser light to make a 3-D image of  the retina. It is a simple test to perform. The pupil may be dilated, then with a special type of camera pictures are taken of the structures inside the eye. It is painless, only takes a few minutes and is useful in diagnosing, abnormalities of the macula, with glaucoma and other diseases affecting the retina. OCT lets doctors see abnormalities that may not be apparent on regular examination.
